Remember. Honor. Teach…National Wreaths Across America

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13

As the Christmas season is nearly upon us, I wanted to share with you a National effort to honour our veterans.

Wreaths Across America (WWA), is a non-profit organization dedicated to Remember, Honor and Teach about American veterans.  Several years ago, I became aware of this organization and it’s efforts on behalf of the men and women of this country who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America. These men and women forsook their tomorrows when they laid their lives down in service to Americans and many other nationalities world-wide. National Wreaths Across America Day is December 13th, 2014.

Don’t Say I Should Have. Say I Did.

WWA needs your help to reach the goal of purchasing and placing 500,000 wreaths on veterans graves in 2014. Every time you help them honor veterans and active military, you are also honoring their families and preparing a new generation to appreciate our freedoms. The cost is only $15 per wreath, a small price to honor and remember those who have given us our freedoms with their sacrifices.

The mission, Remember, Honor, Teach, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies this year on December 13th, 2014 at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and on foreign soil. WWA also organizes a week of events including international veteran’s tributes, ceremonies at State Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade” between Maine and Virginia where they stop along the way to spread the message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms.

This week of events is made possible by thousands of volunteers who organize local ceremonies, raise funds to sponsor wreaths, and participate in the events.  The cost of our programs is paid by individual wreaths sponsors, corporate donors and volunteer truckers.

They also coordinate veteran services and recognition through a variety of programs, and provide schools with teaching aides for projects throughout the year.

Please Honor veterans in your local community by sponsoring a wreath that will be placed on a veteranʼs grave. You choose the location. Groups can get involved as a fundraising project.
